Bay Area weather: Here’s when sunshine and warm temperatures return

Nov 22, 2023Nov 22, 2023

A model rendering of the weather pattern over the West Coast Sunday, with a ridge of high pressure locked over California. This system will shield the Bay Area from the cooler winds of a distant low pressure through the rest of the day.

UPDATE: Another big warmup coming to S.F. this week

After a stretch of cool and drizzly weather, Bay Area residents can expect warm weather to make a comeback this weekend.

An area of high pressure will quickly undo Saturday morning’s gloomy weather, steadily raising the mercury to the upper 60s to lower 70s by the water and mid-70s inland. Sunshine will gradually return to San Francisco and Oakland by the evening; a few clouds over the horizon could make for a spectacular sunset in communities all along San Francisco Bay. This weekend warmup will then carry into Sunday across most of the region.

The forecast calls for high temperatures in the lower to mid-70s on the coast, upper 70s on the bay shore and lower 80s inland Sunday.

Visitors to Golden Gate Park, San Bruno Mountain and Inspiration Point at Tilden Regional Park can expect great picnic and walking weather Sunday. Look for plenty of sunshine and daytime highs in the lower to mid-70s. These conditions will also make for a lovely stroll at Marshall, Muir and Pacifica beaches, with highs near 70 degrees, light winds and low tide in the evening. Just be sure to wear sunscreen, especially during peak sun hours of the day.

Balmy temperatures in the low to mid-80s are on tap for inland residents in the Tri-Valley area, San Jose and most of Wine Country on Sunday. Visitors to vineyards across the region can expect sunny skies and a light afternoon breeze with gusts to 15 mph at times.

The high pressure weakens by Sunday evening, allowing clouds to slowly return to the shoreline overnight. There may be just enough energy in the air for a couple nighttime showers to form in the North Bay, along with drizzle on the coast — enough for residents to notice puddles on their driveways before taking off for the Monday morning commute.

Temperatures will run 2 to 3 degrees cooler as partly cloudy conditions return to the Bay Area on Monday. But weather models hint at another — much stronger — ridge of high pressure forming over California by the middle of next week. Be sure to watch for updates as this evolving weather pattern unfolds.
